B2B
B2B, or business-to-business, is a commerce model where companies sell products or services to other businesses rather than individual consumers. B2B transactions typically involve longer sales cycles, higher order values, multiple decision-makers, and complex approval workflows that differ fundamentally from consumer purchasing behavior.
B2B websites and platforms require specialized features that consumer-facing sites rarely need. These include account-based pricing where different customers see different prices, bulk ordering with volume discounts, quote request workflows, purchase order management, multi-user accounts with role-based permissions, and integration with procurement systems and ERP software.
For web development, B2B projects present unique technical challenges. Product catalogs may contain hundreds of thousands of SKUs with complex attribute filtering. Search must handle part numbers and technical specifications. Digital B2B strategies focus on lead nurturing through content marketing, demonstrating ROI to decision-makers, and providing self-service portals that reduce the cost of serving existing customers.
